TEHRAN Presidential Advisor for Women's Affairs Zahra Shojaei said here Monday that Iran, as the architect of the idea of dialogue among civilizations, welcomes international meetings on this subject, in the believe that they would contribute to preserving global peace and human rights. Shojaei told the wives of some of Tehran-based foreign diplomats that Iran maintains that women, including housewives and those working outside their homes, are the main managers of the world who can help governments establish and guarantee a lasting peace in the world.
Women can influence men's thought and play an effective role in guaranteeing international laws, she added. She said women have gained great progress in the field of science in Iran, and they make up 60 percent of college students in the country. She added that Iranian women have also gained success in the area of sports while observing their hijab (Islamic dress code). The presidential advisor said that observation of hijab does not prevent women from playing their political role. In Iran hijab is observed in different styles in various cities in accordance with different traditions prevailing in those areas, she said.
Shojaei said the number of women's nongovernmental organizations has increased from 76 to 114 over the past few years.
